Student attendance may not be mandatory, but it does have to be tracked so that you can complete your Financial Aid roster(s) and Midterm rosters accurately.

However, many faculty DO have attendance policies in place. It is at your discretion as to whether or not you choose to have an attendance policy. For example, some faculty state that 'X' number of days can be missed before the student's grade is affected.

At any time you notice a student has not been attending and you have tried to contact that student without result, please submit an Early Alert so that one of our Student Success Coaches can attempt to contact the student. It is most beneficial to submit a student referral when the student has missed the first day of class. Student Success Coaches can stress the importance of attendance and the student also gets the message that they are missed when they are not in class. This can help the student to get a better start to the semester and hopefully alleviate issues down the road. For more information, see the section: Tracking attendance in Canvas.
